Clan Boss Without Unkillable: Squeezing More Damage on Auto

Unkillable comps are convenient, but not everyone has Maneater, and building a 50-turn rotation is a chore. The good news: without unkillable, Clan Boss still gives solid numbers if you cover survivability and land your debuffs. Here is a practical plan for squeezing more damage on auto when the boss actually hits back.

Why damage does not collapse without unkillable

With an unkillable setup you take no damage, so you can afford four damage dealers and ignore defence. Without it, the fight becomes a race: survive as many turns as possible and keep maximum debuffs up. And here is the key point — most Clan Boss damage does not come from direct hits, but from poisons, HP Burn and masteries like Warmaster ticking every turn. Your job is not to hit harder, it is to keep debuffs running longer.

Second point: without unkillable you get a soft unkillable — permanent Decrease ATK on the boss. If it never drops, incoming damage falls far enough that ordinary healers and shields cope without any invulnerability.

Survivability: what to cover first

  • Decrease ATK — priority number one, keep it up 100% of the fight.
  • Increase DEF and Strengthen — the second layer, especially good on champions that already live off defence.
  • Shields and Ally Protect — a shield eats a hit outright, Ally Protect spreads the damage. Two such sources already stretch the fight a lot.
  • Healing — one source is not enough: you want a passive one (Doompriest style) plus an active heal or shield.

Rough targets for support: 3,000+ DEF, 40,000+ HP, 170-200 Speed for Nightmare and 200+ for Ultra Nightmare. If a support dies around turn 15-20, the problem is defence and speed, not healing. And do not put Lifesteal on everyone: one proper healer plus correct sets (Speed, Perception, Accuracy) beats four useless vampire sets.

Debuffs are where the damage comes from

Poison and HP Burn hit for a percentage of the boss max HP, so on higher difficulties they are the main damage source, not crit hits. The pattern is simple: 10 poison stacks, HP Burn, Decrease DEF and Weaken — all of it never dropping off.

  • Poison: Fayne, Dracomorph, Teodor the Savant, Akemtum.
  • Poison Sensitivity: Frozen Banshee — the same stacks hit noticeably harder with her.
  • HP Burn and its scaling: Geomancer turns HP Burn into extra damage and works beautifully on auto.
  • Decrease DEF and Weaken: Fayne, Dracomorph, Lydia The Deathsiren — they boost both hits and ticks.

Watch the cap: you cannot fit more than 10 poison stacks, so two poison champions often overwrite each other. One strong poison source plus sensitivity and HP Burn beats three champions spamming the same thing.

Masteries and gear: where damage is usually lost

  • Warmaster or Giant Slayer on everyone who regularly hits the boss; on multi-hitters Giant Slayer procs more often.
  • 100% Crit Rate on damage dealers, then Crit Damage. Crit without capped rate is a lottery.
  • Speed boots on everyone except maybe one tank.
  • Accuracy from the table below: a debuff that misses is a wasted turn.
DifficultyAccuracy (rough)Speed (rough)
Brutal120-150150-180
Nightmare170-200170-200
Ultra Nightmare220-260200-230

Numbers depend on your roster and difficulty, so verify in practice: if a debuff fails to land two fights in a row, add accuracy, not crit.

Auto setup: skill priorities and turn order

The most common reason for low auto damage is not gear, it is the AI. Before you hit start:

  1. Turn off everything on support that does not give a shield, a heal or a debuff. AOE hits on the boss just burn a turn.
  2. Put debuffs first in priority: Decrease ATK and Decrease DEF should go before damage.
  3. Check turn order: Decrease ATK and the shield must land before the boss first strike, and the healer should not be your fastest champion or it will heal a full health bar.
  4. Set buff extension (Godseeker Aniri, White Dryad Nia) so it catches shields and defence buffs, not empty slots.
  5. Run 3-4 fights in a row, not one: what matters is that the team reliably reaches turn 40-50.

Three team skeletons for different rosters

Poison (most accessible)

Frozen Banshee + Fayne + Rearguard Sergeant + Doompriest + Geomancer. The Sergeant holds Ally Protect and Decrease ATK, Doompriest cleanses and tops up, the rest stack poisons and HP Burn. Works on almost any mid-tier gear.

Counterattack

Skullcrusher + Fayne + White Dryad Nia + Aox the Rememberer + Frozen Banshee. Skullcrusher brings Counterattack and Ally Protect, Aox drops Decrease ATK and heals, Nia extends buffs. Damage grows through extra hits rather than crits.

Shields and defence

Underpriest Brogni or Valkyrie + Godseeker Aniri + Fayne + Geomancer + Frozen Banshee. Shield, Ally Protect and Increase DEF keep the fight long, and Krisk the Ageless or Cardiel in that slot push the team to the next level if you own them.

Summary

  • Without unkillable, damage comes from debuffs, not crits: poisons, HP Burn and masteries.
  • The soft unkillable is 100% Decrease ATK uptime plus shields and Ally Protect.
  • One proper healer and correct sets beat four Lifesteal sets.
  • Auto is tuned through skill priorities and turn order, not hope.
  • Test the team over 3-4 fights and fix accuracy first, crit later.
