The Demon Lord is still the backbone of clan rewards, and no single team covers every difficulty. Easy and Normal are about poisons and simply staying alive, Brutal wants reliable debuffs and sustain, while Nightmare and Ultra-Nightmare are built around turn tuning and permanent damage mitigation. Here is what actually changes between the tiers.
What changes with difficulty
The boss stays the same — his HP, damage and resistance to debuffs do not. That shifts the job: on Easy and Normal you just have to survive with poisons ticking, on Brutal you need sustain, and on Nightmare and UNM the fight turns into an engineering task where Block Damage or Unkillable has to be up without gaps.
| Difficulty | What wins the fight | Accuracy (rough target) |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | Survivability and any damage | 20–40 |
| Normal | First poisons and healing | 40–70 |
| Hard | Permanent Decrease ATK, poisons | 80–110 |
| Brutal | Sustain: shields, Ally Protect, Counterattack | 120–150 |
| Nightmare | Block Damage/Unkillable, turn tuning | 180–220 |
| Ultra-Nightmare | Fully tuned composition | 230–260 |
Accuracy numbers are approximate: if debuffs keep getting resisted, add 30–50 and test in a single run.
Easy and Normal: the starter five
No exotic picks needed — the champions you already level will do.
- Poisons: Kael is the default early carry, his poisons do most of the work. Frozen Banshee or Aox the Rememberer slot in if you skipped him.
- Decrease ATK: Rearguard Sergeant brings the attack debuff plus Ally Protect and is one of the best early epics for this fight.
- Healing and cleansing: Doompriest strips debuffs and heals every turn, Pain Keeper heals and boosts turn meter.
- Survival: Toragi The Frog covers the team with Ally Protect and passive healing.
Gear is simple: Speed on everyone, Accuracy on debuffers, HP and Defence on tanks. On Easy and Normal the player who reaches turn 30 wins, not the one with the biggest crit.
Hard and Brutal: poisons, sustain and steady 3–4 keys
The boss starts hitting hard, so shields, Ally Protect and Counterattack enter the picture.
- Geomancer — HP Burn plus a passive that punishes the boss for its own attacks.
- Skullcrusher — Counterattack and Ally Protect: more hits means more poison ticks.
- Fahrakin the Fat — crit buffs and Ally Attack for your damage dealers.
- Deacon Armstrong — Speed aura, Leech and turn meter control.
- Dark Kael, Whisper, Fayne — the champions that turn debuffs into damage.
The rule is simple: cap Accuracy and Speed first, chase damage later. A debuff that does not land gives you neither damage nor survival.
Nightmare: survival beats damage
Out-healing the boss no longer works — you either cancel his damage or run very heavy sustain.
- Maneater + Pain Keeper — the classic first Unkillable core for players stepping into Nightmare.
- Demytha + Seeker — Block Damage plus turn meter for a tuned cycle.
- Underpriest Brogni — team-wide shields to eat the AoE turns.
- Valkyrie — shield and Counterattack when you lack a full Unkillable setup.
- Acrizia, Gnut, Dracomorph, Fayne — your main damage.
Watch the boss affinity: weak affinity cuts your accuracy and damage, so the roster often has to change. One badly chosen damage dealer here costs a whole key.
Ultra-Nightmare: a tuned composition
On UNM teams are built around cycles, not raw power: Block Damage or Unkillable must cover every dangerous boss turn without a gap.
- Cycle core: Maneater, Demytha, Seeker, Pain Keeper.
- Universal pieces: Krisk and Cardiel for survival and utility, Mithrala Lifebane for poisons and Accuracy aura, Teodor the Savant for poisons, Underpriest Brogni for shields.
- Damage: Acrizia, Gnut, Titus Blackplume, Senna Amberheart, Tetsuya the Deliverer, Sydax King Killer, Klaazag Keyhulk.
- Affinity fine-tuning: Vault Keeper Wixwell, Acelin the Stalwart, Wallmaster Othorion, Niamhe Spear of Nyresa, The Tin Woodman, Lydia The Deathsiren, Marius the Gallant, Cecilia The Red Hope.
Speeds are tuned with a calculator for your exact roster, never by eye. The goal is not a damage record but two or three reliable keys.
Common mistakes
- Accuracy below the requirement — debuffs miss and the whole team works for nothing.
- No permanent Decrease ATK: the boss punches through even very tanky champions.
- Too many damage dealers and no slot left for sustain.
- Damage dealers without Warmaster or Giant Slayer masteries.
- Ignoring boss affinity and the stun: one champion drops out of the cycle and the tune falls apart.
Summary
Clan Boss is a ladder. Easy and Normal fall to a starter five with poisons, Hard and Brutal to accuracy and sustain, Nightmare to Unkillable and Block Damage, and UNM to a fully tuned composition. Move one difficulty at a time, lock in stability first, and chase damage records only afterwards.
