Debuffs win more fights in RAID: Shadow Legends than any single piece of gear. Weaken plus Decrease DEF can multiply your damage against a boss, and one well-timed control debuff switches off an entire wave. Below: what the key debuffs actually do, how strong they are, how to land them, and where they matter in 2026.
How debuffs work: the ground rules
Before arguing about numbers, lock in the mechanics that apply to every debuff in the game.
- One type, one instance. A second Weaken on the same target simply will not stick. A strong version overwrites a weak one; a weak version never overwrites a strong one.
- Timers tick on the target's turn. A two-turn debuff falls off after two turns of the champion carrying it, not yours. That is why speed manipulation also stretches or shortens debuff uptime.
- Slots are limited. A target holds a limited number of debuffs (around ten). If the slots are full, a new debuff can fail to land — junk debuffs sometimes block your Decrease DEF.
- Poison stacks, HP Burn does not. You can pile several Poison stacks and each one ticks on the target's turn; HP Burn normally sits in a single instance.
- Bosses barely care about control. Stun, Freeze, Sleep, Provoke, Fear and Petrify do not work on bosses — but Decrease DEF, Decrease ATK, Decrease SPD and Weaken do.
Weaken: the universal multiplier
Weaken does not touch the target's stats at all — it increases all damage the target takes. That makes it the cleanest multiplier in the game: it does not care what you hit with, and it stacks with every other debuff.
- The standard version adds roughly +25% incoming damage; weaker variants add less, and a few champions carry stronger ones.
- Apply it before your nuke. Support first, damage dealers second — hit first and the multiplier only helps your follow-up attacks.
- It usually lasts about two turns, so long fights need a reliable re-application on a short cooldown.
- Unlike Decrease DEF, Weaken works on any target, thick or thin — it is a flat multiplier, not a stat cut.
Decrease DEF: the main damage enabler
Decrease DEF cuts the target's defence, which is the main shield against physical and most other damage in RAID. The thicker the target, the bigger the effect: against a boss with a huge defence pool the debuff multiplies your damage, while against a squishy Arena target you will barely notice it.
- Standard is around −60% DEF, the weak version around −30%. Never overwrite a strong version with a weak one — it is the classic beginner mistake.
- The bread-and-butter combo is Decrease DEF + Weaken. Apply both first, then hit. Nearly every nuke setup and Clan Boss team is built on it.
- The debuff has a limited duration, so long fights need a dedicated debuffer on a short cooldown, not "whenever it happens".
- Against low-DEF targets the priority shifts: Decrease ATK and control matter more than DEF down.
Other key debuffs: attack, speed and blockers
Beyond the two multipliers, a second group of debuffs handles survivability and tempo.
| Debuff | What it does | Where it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Decrease ATK | cuts enemy damage, usually by a quarter or half | Clan Boss, Hydra, Arena |
| Decrease SPD | slows the target and shifts turn order | Hydra, waves, Arena |
| Decrease C.RATE and C.DMG | blunts crit threats | Arena, heavy damage dealers |
| Heal Reduction | cuts healing received | healer waves, Arena |
| Block Buffs | stops positive effects from landing | waves, Arena, Hydra |
| Block Revive | stops the target being revived | Arena, reviver waves |
| Poison and HP Burn | damage based on a percentage of max HP | Clan Boss, Spider, bosses |
Control deserves its own mention: Stun, Freeze, Sleep, Provoke, Fear and Petrify. Bosses are immune, but on waves and in Arena one landed Stun removes a champion from the fight. Provoke is not a damage debuff at all — it redirects attacks and keeps dangerous enemies off your squishies.
Accuracy vs Resistance: don't drop your debuffs
Every debuff goes through an accuracy-versus-resistance check. Miss the check and the debuff never lands — the whole plan falls apart, even with perfect damage gear.
- Do not skimp on accuracy on supports and debuffers: 200+ is comfortable for most PvE content, and high-end fights (top Hydra difficulties, late floors) want noticeably more.
- Even with a big margin there is always a small chance to be resisted, and when accuracy is short the miss chance climbs fast. That is why a debuff does not always stick first try.
- Decrease RES helps crack stubborn enemies, especially in Arena.
- Put your debuffs on the champion built for accuracy, not whoever happens to be standing nearby.
Where each debuff matters
Clan Boss
The core is Decrease DEF plus Weaken, with Poison and HP Burn layered on top. Do not forget Decrease ATK — it saves runs on later turns. Kael and his poisons remain the clearest example of how damage-over-time sits alongside debuffs.
Hydra
Decrease SPD, Block Buffs, Provoke (to pull heads away from your team) and Decrease ATK rule here. Head resistance is high, so bring accuracy with a margin.
Arena
Decrease DEF plus Weaken is the standard way to delete tanks in one volley. Against revivers you bring Block Revive; against nukers, Decrease ATK and control.
Dungeons and waves
On waves, control and Block Buffs matter most; on bosses it is Decrease DEF, Weaken and Decrease ATK. Poison and HP Burn shine wherever damage runs into a huge HP pool.
Summary
- Weaken and Decrease DEF are your main damage multipliers: apply them before your damage dealers swing, and never overwrite a strong version with a weak one.
- Decrease ATK and Decrease SPD are about survival and tempo; they work on bosses, while control does not.
- Blockers (buffs, healing, revive) shut down entire enemy mechanics.
- Without accuracy debuffs simply do not land: 200+ for most PvE, more for high-end content.
Build the team so multipliers and blockers are up permanently rather than occasionally — and your damage climbs without a single new item.
