Champion Awakening in RAID: What It Gives and Who to Awaken First

Awakening is a separate progression layer in RAID: Shadow Legends: it does not replace stars, masteries or gear, it adds stat percentages and Blessings on top of a champion you have already built. Here is how the system works, what it actually gives you and who to awaken first so you don't burn scarce Souls on vault guardians.

What Awakening is and what it is not

Awakening is stars on top of stars: a champion gets a separate 1 to 6 Awakening star track. It does not cancel the 6★ rank, masteries or gear — it works as a multiplier on a finished champion.

Do not confuse three different things: rank (levelling to 6★), Empowerment (duplicate champions giving stat bonuses) and Awakening (Souls and Blessings). Different systems, different resources, and you cannot swap one for another.

How it works: Souls, stars, Blessings

  • Souls are champion-specific items. A Kael Soul will not work on Athel, and vice versa — they cannot be moved between champions.
  • A Soul has its own star level. To raise a champion to N stars of Awakening you need a Soul of that same champion at N stars. Lower-star Souls are a stepping stone, not a substitute.
  • Souls come from Soul Stones of various rarities (from common up to mythical), and also from events, tournaments, rewards and the shop. The higher the champion's rarity, the rarer and more expensive their Souls: a legendary Soul is a completely different level of scarcity than a rare one.
  • As Awakening stars go up, Blessing slots unlock — at set star levels, not on every star — and the Blessing itself gets stronger.
  • A Blessing is a passive effect you pick from a pool: offensive (damage, debuffs), defensive (survivability, healing) and utility. One choice per slot, made for the content the champion actually plays.

What Awakening actually gives you

  • A percentage boost to HP, ATK and DEF per star. On a full build it is noticeable, especially on tanks and on damage dealers who have already hit a ceiling.
  • Blessings are the real point of the system: passive bonuses that tick through the whole fight in Clan Boss, Hydra, Arena and Dungeons.
  • It only pays off where the champion already plays: a bare hero without gear and masteries will not "switch on" thanks to Awakening.
  • It adds no new active skills and does not change a champion's mechanics — only stats plus Blessing effects.

Who to awaken first

  1. Your Clan Boss core. Clan Boss runs every day, so the Awakening boost pays back fastest there.
  2. Your Arena nuker or main damage dealer — if they actually win you fights rather than sitting in the roster.
  3. Your key support or tank for Hydra and Dungeons: defensive Blessings keep the whole team alive, not just one hero.
  4. Your campaign farmer (Kael and similar) — only if they are still your main source of levelling. If farming is already solved, priority is low.
Champion roleWhat to look for in a BlessingPriority
Clan Boss damage dealerdamage and debuffs on the boss, survivability in long fightshigh
Arena nukeroffensive effects that trigger fasthigh
Support / tankdefence, healing, team survivabilitymedium
Campaign farmeranything that doesn't cost rare Soulslow

One more thing: a Soul dropping for a champion you never play is not a reason to awaken them. First decide whether they belong in your roster at all.

Common mistakes

  • Awakening "for the future" and stockpiling legendary Souls on the shelf.
  • Starting with Awakening when the champion has no 6★, no masteries and no decent gear.
  • Picking a Blessing because the description sounds cool instead of for a specific piece of content.
  • Forgetting that unwanted Souls can be sold or exchanged — that is a resource too.
  • Expecting Awakening to replace masteries, gear or a champion's mechanics.

Summary

Awakening is a late progression layer. First 6★, masteries and working gear; then Awakening stars and Blessings. Awaken your Clan Boss and Arena core first, then key supports, and never spend Souls on vault heroes — it is the scarcest resource you have.
