Accuracy vs Resistance: the Debuff Landing Formula

Accuracy and Resistance are the most misunderstood stat pair in RAID. Some players slap an Accuracy banner on everything just in case, others leave their debuffer at zero and then wonder why nothing lands on the boss. Here is the formula, practical targets and the myths worth dropping.

The formula: 100% + Accuracy − Resistance

It all comes down to one line: a base of 100% plus your Accuracy minus the target's Resistance, with the result clamped between 5% and 100%.

  • Accuracy equal to the target's Resistance → the debuff lands 100% of the time.
  • Accuracy above it → still 100%; the surplus does nothing in that fight.
  • Resistance 30 higher → 70% chance to land.
  • Resistance 95 or more higher → you hit the 5% floor.

That 5% is a floor, not a miss chance. It is why a debuff occasionally sticks even with zero Accuracy — and why 'it worked once' is not a strategy.

Order matters too: the skill's own chance rolls first (if it says 75% chance to place), then Accuracy versus Resistance. So a 75% skill with perfect Accuracy still whiffs roughly one time in four, and no amount of Accuracy fixes that.

One more detail: debuffs are not the only thing checked. Removing or stealing buffs from enemies also goes through Accuracy. Buffs you place on your own team and cleanses on allies are not checked at all — Resistance is irrelevant there.

The myth of '+10 Accuracy'

The old advice of taking 10 more Accuracy than the enemy's Resistance is everywhere, but it is not in the formula: equality is already a guaranteed land. The buffer exists for a different reason — you rarely know the target's exact Resistance, and enemies can gain Resistance from auras or an Increase RES buff.

In practice, builds carry 20–50 extra Accuracy: not for the math, but so you do not fall off when the target grows. If you farm a specific boss and know its Resistance, build right at it and put the spare slots into Speed or survivability.

Accuracy targets by content

The numbers below are guidelines for debuffers, not gospel. Always check the Resistance of the specific boss and what you need from the run.

ContentAccuracyComment
Campaign and easy stages0–50debuffs land anyway, do not bother
Mid dungeon stages100–150baseline for stable debuffs
High stages, mid-league Arena200–250your first realistic goal

Extra Accuracy does not hurt, but it does not help either: if your damage or survivability dropped, anything above the threshold can go into crit, Speed or HP.

Where to get Accuracy and Resistance

  • Banner — the main slot where Accuracy and Resistance can roll as the primary stat. For a debuffer it is the first candidate.
  • Substats — both can appear on any artifact, but only as a secondary stat, and rolling them is a lottery.
  • Great Hall — permanent Accuracy and Resistance bonuses for each affinity, bought with Arena medals. They apply to your whole roster, which makes them the best value in the game.
  • Sets — Accuracy, Resistance and the hybrid Perception set: two pieces, cheap and effective, especially early on.
  • Auras — some heroes give Accuracy to the whole team as a leader bonus. Free stats, do not ignore them.
  • Masteries — the Support tree has a talent that increases the chance to place debuffs. Small, but nice on a Clan Boss debuffer.

When to build Resistance

Resistance is a defensive stat: Arena defence, heroes who must survive control (shields, buffers, healers) and the occasional tanky boss build. The logic mirrors Accuracy — to avoid being locked down by stun or provoke, your Resistance must sit above the attacker's Accuracy, with a margin.

As a rough guide, Resistance around 300+ is considered workable in mid Arena leagues and noticeably more in high ones. Just remember it does not save you from raw damage and does nothing against effects that are not checked at all. And there is no point building it on the whole team — usually it is one or two key heroes.

In PvE you mostly do not need it: bosses deal damage and apply debuffs by their own rules, and survivability is cheaper to get from HP, Defence and healing.

Common mistakes

  1. Accuracy on a damage dealer who places no debuffs. Dead stat — crit and attack are better.
  2. 'I have 500 Accuracy, why did it fail?' — because the skill only has a 50% chance, and the Accuracy check comes after it.
  3. Accuracy instead of Speed. Turn order first, everything else second: a debuffer that moves last is useless.
  4. Ignoring the Great Hall. Those bonuses cover your whole roster and cost medals, not gear.
  5. Overbuilding Resistance in PvE, where it solves nothing.

Summary

The formula is simple: 100% + Accuracy − Resistance, clamped to 5–100%. Matching the enemy's Resistance is already enough for a guaranteed land, and a 20–50 buffer is insurance against unknown Resistance and enemy buffs. For a debuffer, build Speed and Accuracy for the content first (roughly 200–250 for high stages, 250–350+ for top bosses), then add Resistance selectively on one or two Arena heroes. And remember: the skill's own chance and the 5% floor are always in play.
