Guide: Magma Dragon

In short

Magma Dragon (Kuldath) is a Doom Tower rotation boss built around HP Burn. He blankets your team with burns and then detonates all of them in a single skill, so wipes usually happen in one turn rather than through chip damage. His floors pay out shards, artefacts and Doom Tower resources, which is why it's worth learning the fight instead of skipping the rotation.

Mechanics

  • HP Burn across the team. He spreads burns widely, then one skill instantly activates every burn on your champions — that spike is the real boss damage.
  • Hex. Lands on your lowest-HP champion and can't be blocked or reflected. Against a Hexed target the boss ignores Block Damage, Shield, Unkillable and 100% DEF, so immortality setups fall apart.
  • Lava passive. If you strip Hex from yourself or an ally, he instantly re-applies it. Cleansing Hex is a wasted turn.
  • He refuses HP Burn himself — burns placed on him are removed and turned into healing, so burn-based damage on the boss is wasted.
  • Immunities. Stun, Freeze, Sleep, Provoke, Fear, True Fear, Block Active Skills, HP exchange and equalise effects, and cooldown increases all do nothing.

What your team needs

  • Cleanse or Block Debuffs — the fight is decided by whether burns stack up before his AoE.
  • ACC around 200–250+ on debuffers (higher floors need more, it depends on difficulty), SPD 180–220 on support so cleanse lands between his turns.
  • Decrease DEF and Weaken so his huge HP pool actually moves.
  • Enemy MAX HP damage — the most reliable damage source here.
  • Decrease ATK, shields and healing to survive the regular AoEs.
  • A revive in case a detonation goes through anyway.

Teams

Starter/budget: Doompriest, Stag Knight, Royal Guard, Fahrakin the Fat, Ursala the Mourner. Doompriest cleanses a burn every turn, Stag Knight keeps Decrease DEF and Decrease ATK up, Royal Guard supplies MAX HP damage and Ursala revives whoever gets caught.

Mid-game: Mausoleum Mage, Dhukk the Pierced, Royal Guard, Venomage, Rector Drath. Mausoleum Mage brings cleanse plus Block Debuffs, Dhukk and Venomage stack debuffs and poison, Rector Drath heals and picks people up.

Endgame: Duchess Lilitu, Mithrala Lifebane, Underpriest Brogni, Gnut, Acrizia. Block Debuffs and shields neutralise the burns, while Gnut and Acrizia chew through his HP with enemy MAX HP hits.

Common mistakes

  • Entering without a cleanse — the detonation activates every burn at once and ends the run in a single turn.
  • Relying on Unkillable or Block Damage on a Hexed champion: the boss ignores both.
  • Cleansing Hex instead of burns — the passive just puts it straight back.
  • Building debuffers without accuracy, so Decrease DEF never lands and the fight times out.
  • Trying to control him with stun or provoke.

Tips

  • Lifesteal on damage dealers plus a healer in support gives you a buffer between detonations.
  • Sets: Speed and Accuracy on debuffers, Lifesteal or Immortal on your damage, Perception as the generic filler for support.
  • Run the first attempt manually to see which turn he detonates, then time your cleanse or Block Debuffs to that turn.
  • On auto, set skill priorities so cleanse and Block Debuffs fire first and switch off cosmetic buffs.
  • Take defensive masteries on your tanks and boss-damage masteries on your damage dealers.

How to beat Magma Dragon?

Always keep the Dragon under a Provoke debuff. If you don't have provokers, you need to bring Melga + a Reliquary Guardian. The Guardian removes Hex, dies, gets revived, and so on in a loop. Melga can be swapped for any reviver.

But in reality, we take our strongest packs and try. It has few special features; usually standard packs work, and if not, strengthen your heroes.
